When the Cardinal of Los Angeles, Francis James, was visiting the Provincial Superior of the Province of the United States, Mother Acacia Lasa, he insisted on the importance of having a hospital where the Novices could gain experience in the ministry with the sick and also to meet a great and urgent necessity in the Archdiocese: the care of chronic patients. After obtaining the approval of the General Government, the foundation of this hospital, “Mary Health of the Sick”, took place on June 20, 1964. There were thirteen founding Sisters with Mother Teresa Etchegaray at the head of the Community. The Sisters continue this beautiful mission of caring for the elderly patients in this convalescent hospital.
