The Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick were founded on August 15, 1851, in Madrid, Spain by Saint Maria Soledad Torres Acosta.

The Congregation is made up of eight Provinces and eight convents that depend directly on the General Curia located in Rome:

• Province of Madrid with 13 convents in Spain, France and England
• Province of Andalucía with 9 convents Spain and Portugal
• Province of Castilla  with 16 convents in Spain and Portugal
• Province of Cataluña with 12 convents in Spain and Italy
• Province of Antilles with 15 convents in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti
• Province of the United States with 15 convents in Mexico and the United States
• Province of Argentina with 18 convents in Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia and Uruguay
• Province of Colombia with 9 convents in Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Panama

The eight convents not included in the Provinces directly depend on the General Curia:

• In Italy: convents in Rome and Naples
• In Cameroon: convents in Widikum, Bamenda and Batseng’la (Dschang)
• In Philippines: convents in Lagonoy, Quezon City and Bacolod.

Today 1,628 Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick are dedicated to serving the sick in 115 convents in 22 countries.

The Congregation currently has:

• 96 convents dedicated to caring for the sick in their own homes
• 3 convents with centers for chronic patients
• 1 convent dedicated to both home and hospital care
• 9 hospitals
• 6 clinics

Our service of caring for the sick is carried out in various ways such as:

• Day and night care in their own home
• Visiting nursing
• Private care in facilities
• Clinics
• Hospitals
• Hospices
• Nursing homes
• Infirmaries
• Health centers
• Centers for AIDS patients
